Heavy rain, SNOW and strong winds are expected – here’s the latest

The South African Meteorological Service (SAWS) has warned that heavy rain, strong winds and snow are expected this weekend.

A deepening upper trough, surface trough and cresting high pressure system are expected to bring windy, wet and cold to very cold conditions across the province Sunday through Tuesday. Significant accumulations are expected to fall in places south of the escarpment beginning Sunday with conditions improving eastward beginning Tuesday afternoon.

Eskom is aiming for a MASSIVE increase for next year – more info here

Eskom plans to request a MASSIVE tariff increase from 1 April 2023/24. It was announced on Thursday.

The tariff request is currently being examined by Nersa, which must take a final decision by Christmas Eve at the latest.

It is believed that public hearings will take place next week. Eskom’s announcement on Thursday was aimed at informing the public that it had updated its tariff application for fiscal years 2024 and 2025.

Instant Karma! Cable thief in Pretoria arrested after his hand got stuck

Oh buddy. Never mind getting caught in the act, if it was us, we’d be redder. A suspected cable thief was caught stealing last night, and a local neighborhood watch group had the easiest task, when it came to turning the scammer into Pretoria’s SAPS.

Suspect was, pardon the pun, “handed over” Wednesday night. He was discovered in indescribable terrain, next to a residential fence. When the AfriForum patrol arrived, they noticed the male suspect was sitting on the ground, defeated and slumped next to a manhole.

WATCH: Drama as Adv Teffo demands to see judge in court

There was drama at the North Gauteng High Court on Thursday morning before proceedings in the murder trial of Senzo Meyiwa could even begin as former defense counsel for defendants 1-4, barrister Malesela Teffo , entered in his robe and asked to see the presiding judge, Tshifhiwa Maumela.

It was not immediately clear what attorney Teffo, who resigned earlier this year, had come to do as he strolled outside the court.

Court proceedings were delayed after Teffo appeared in court. The lawyer spoke with defense lawyers and the public prosecutor who, apparently confused, questioned his presence. Amid all the confusion, a heavy police presence entered the court and followed Teffo as he exited.

Landlord kills two suspected armed robbers, police open investigation

A landlord allegedly shot and killed two knife-wielding intruders in Sundra, Mpumalanga in the early hours of Wednesday September 14.

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesman Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said police received a complaint about a shooting and when they arrived at the scene they found two men with gunshot wounds . The couple were later pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

“Further reports indicate that the two men are believed to have entered the house they are believed to have entered by breaking a window in the study room. It is further alleged that the two were in possession of knives,” Mohlala said.
